Leeds Student Radio’s Gig Picks – Week beginning 21st November

RPM: Live and Local goes out on Saturday nights at 8pm, tune in for the best that the Leeds scene has to offer. For now, here are our opinions on some of what is going on in the next week…

JPNSGRLS and Fizzy Blood – Brudenell Social Club – Monday 21st

James Two words for Fizzy Blood. Bass. Face. It’s a spectacle. The music is pretty decent as well. Expect sweat. As a hometown show you can be sure they’ll be up for it.

Eloise Something you wanna play on guitar hero. Joined by the equally guitar friendly JPNSGRLS it’ll be a loud one. (They’re Canadian may I add).

Weirds/Vulgarians/Cattle/Night Owls – Headrow – Wednesday 23rd

James Night Owls are a sick live outfit who are about a year old. They sent us some tracks last year and it made me happy. Solid. Go see.

Eloise I wonder whether he gets a sore throat.

Palace – Belgrave – Thursday 24th

James This band have nothing to do with the clothing brand with the triangle. I was surprised by this. They said to DIY “we thought we might be the sh****est band in the world,” they’re not. So they got that going for them. Which is nice. Their album came out on the fourth…

Eloise Long-awaited this album has been. Will they deliver on their live set? There has been some rumours that they are possible successors to the Maccabees which if it’s anything to go by….

Jaws – Headrow – Friday 25th

James I like primary colours so this image appeals to me. Other than that the music is also appealing.

Eloise Saw these guys with my dad. He enjoyed. But this isn’t just music for dads, these lanky young’uns have surf rock down.

Sun Ra Arkestra – Belgrave – Sunday 27th

James If you need to be convinced of the reasons to see guys who dress like the three three kings on acid performing Jazz then frankly I don’t want to be your friend.

Eloise This could be an interesting one. Dedicated to the late, great jazz musician Sun Ra (who admittedly I did not know), this three hour set is set to be an interactive 3D affair. Oh and a 92 year old directs it.

With thanks to The Leeds Gig Guide who make all of this very easy to find http://www.leedsgigs.co.uk/
